Rocking my third day curls with the Kinky Curly Curling Custard

Today I was shopping in Zürich, my favorite Swiss city and I was totally surprised about how nice my curls still looked on a third day. On a usual third day I’ve got to put my curls into a ponytail or any other updo, but not today – thank you Kinky Curly Curling Custard!

The Kinky Curly Curling Custard

Seriously, I can’t believe my curls still look so nice and voluminous on a third day! So this is the product, that helped me getting great third day curls:

I’m starting to like Kinky Curly products even more – not only their great detangler, but also their
styler, the Kinky Curly Curling Custard (KCCC). Although I was a bit surprised by its consistency it worked really well in my curls!

I’ve added this product to my curls as I would any styler, however you definitely need to be careful not to use too much of the KCCC. If you do so your curls remain “wet” in the spots you’ve used too much and therefore they’ll be just hanging down. With this product it’s probably easier to comb it in rather than just add it to your curls by gliding along.

What I absolutely love about this product is how it doesn’t weigh down my curls, but still tames any unwanted frizz! So now that’s just why I generally like this product, but doesn’t yet answer why I’m rocking my third day curls…

I love how my curls are still voluminous on a third day

So how did the Kinky Curly Curling Custard help with my third day curls?

I’ve just washed my curls three days ago first using the Kinky Curly Knot Today not only as a detangler, but also as a conditioner and I then finished up my washing routine using the KCCC as my styler. Yesterday and today I revitalized my curls with my usual technique and the same conditioner as always, so nothing new there. So let me finally get to why it got me better third day curls than other stylers:

Most other stylers…

  • … are too heavy on second or third days and start weighing down my curls when I’m adding my water-conditioner mix,
  • … and therefore my curls feel limp and loose their volume (yes, I’ve got to admit I’m obsessed with getting great volume), and
  • … make my curls feel producty after at least the second day!

So now I’m just curious to find out how my curls’ll look tomorrow!

Do you have other recommendations for 2nd (or 3rd) day curls? My curls are so product and weighed down by day two! It’s such a disappointment because we (us curl girls) know how much work it is to do a full wash/conditioner/style treatment.
I’m looking for a something that might be able to make my curls last into a 2nd or 3rd day without having to do an up-do. The KCCC is at my local Target so I may try that but I’m more looking for a way to salvage 2nd day hair without starting with the KCCC.

    Thank you! Great blog btw.

      Thank you, Kailey!
On some days it just seems impossible to get great second day curls, which is pretty annoying as like you I don’t like to wash my curls too often…
Have you tried the pineapple-method over night to get great second day curls? See this post for more infos about it: https://www.justcurly.com/curly-tips/how-to-get-perfect-second-day-curls/ or have you tried a braid out over night? I’ve seen other people reviving their curls with a curling iron on second and third days, but unfortunately it didn’t work out for me…
I’m actually planning another post on how to revive limp curls on second days without using any heat, I’ll probably post it next week. Other than that I’ve noticed I can get better second and third day curls when I wash my curls in the morning and not at night.
