Today I’d like to share my super-easy clipping technique to get more root volume! Clipping my curls with normal bobby pins is one of the most important steps while diffusing.
Is clipping the right technique for your curls?
Unlike other methods used by curlies, I don’t see why you shouldn’t give clipping a try. Even if your curls can’t hold the additional volume, you won’t mess up your curls trying to clip them (if you remove the bobby pins carefully enough). So, I think you should definitely give it a try as for me it makes a huge difference in root volume.
Clip your curls before you have finished diffusing them
To achieve the best possible results, I suggest you to clip your curls when your curls are only about 80-90% dry. Once you’ve placed the bobby pins you can finish blow-drying your curls (I always blow-dry them until they’re 100% dry). If you continue to diffuse with the bobby pins in your hair, be careful not to burn your scalp (don’t use any metal bobby pins as they’ll get really hot). Take them out after about 5 to 10 minutes and you’re ready to go. Watch the whole step-by-step tutorial here:
I’ve tried clipping with all kinds of clips, but I could only get it to work using normal bobby pins! So before buying clips that are specifically designed for clipping, give the bobby pins you still have at home a try!

So helpful thank you!! Do you think clipping would give more volume if I do it after my hair is dry. Or on a second day when I’m not drying my hair?

Yes, you could also try clipping your roots when your hair is already dry. However, I suppose it won’t give your roots the same volume, like it does when clipping your curls while they’re still a bit wet. Let me know how it worked for your curls!

So I have wavy/curly hair and I don’t have problems with volume at my roots when it’s natural but I’d like to use your method of clipping w/ the bobby pins when I straighten my hair. Would it still work?
